Moral injury (MI) in the veteran population is an emerging theory in mental health distress. Moral injury is described as a psychologically and morally injurious event experienced in war and combat (Litz et al., 2009; Maguen & Litz 2019). Tension remains in the literature about MI’s definition, as well as its differences from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a comorbidity. Moreover, there is a dearth of published literature on gender specific differences in MI.
In my research, I continue to ask the following questions:
What are the characteristics of MI in veterans?
What are the challenges specific to addressing MI in female veterans?
